At last after long years of English imprisonment, Scotland's King James I negotiates the terms of his release and of his marriage to his beloved Joan Beaufort. But he returns to a Scotland in chaos. Surrounded by plots, intrigues, and rebellions, James struggles to restore order and survive attempts by his family to overthrow him. Above all, James fears that his life and his own dream -- of a Scotland at peace with a strong parliament -- might be lost to his family's greed for power.

A King Uncaged A Historical Novel of Scotland The Stewart Chronicle Book 2 edition by J R Tomlin Literature Fiction eBooks

I like historical fiction and this is a good book in the genre. I have some knowledge of the time period and found this book to be accurate and believable. This book does not go into great depth about the period and covers a relatively short time period. So if you are looking for a history book then this probably isn't for you. It is well written and entertaining and I would recommend it. One word of caution to you grammar nazi's. There are some mistakes. Nothing that bothered me or took anything away from the experience. However if you are a person who finds a couple of errors and it ruins the whole experience for you then I would stay away from this book. No sense in buying it, find the very few errors and then giving the author a 1 star for it. This book is cheap at three times the price. Buy it today.

A King Uncaged A Historical Novel of Scotland The Stewart Chronicle Book 2 edition by J R Tomlin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This was a story that was an important read for me. It concerned the life of one of my ancestors who was a king of Scotland. J. R. Tomlin stayed very close to true historical events that actually occurred and I recognized the names of many of my ancestors. Thank you for a job well done and for the great research you did in keeping to the historical events.
Excellent story continuing the history of King James I of Scotland.
His reforms and laws were just but he was foully betrayed by his uncle and by a man his wife innocently allowed him to pardon. The author again gives us much to appreciate with his historical novel.
Having read all of Tomlins historical books, I was looking forward to this one. It does not disappoint! Carrying on the story of James Stewart begun in 'A King Ensnared', this tells of James's return to Scotland and his reign as king. He had a massive job ahead of him, and strove to be a good, strong King unlike his weak father.
A great telling of this fine man's story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this historical novel as it reflected the time and feel of this period of history. The way that the author uses the English language will let you fall in love with reading all his books. This is the second boo in the chronicles, and it does not disappoint. I became fully engaged with the characters and their lives. Highly recommend all his books, . )
This is one of the better books I’ve read on Scottish historical fiction. I’m anxious to get to the next one in this series.
I really enjoyed this story. It's a sequel to "A King Ensnared," (The Stewart Chronicles) which I enjoyed also. Both books follow fairly well the historical story and bring King James I of Scotland to life. The books are not character studies, but one begins to understand the kind of person he was and how things came about the way they did.

A warning I cried (surprising myself) near the end of this book. I won't say why because I don't want to spoil it.

If you enjoy historical fiction or Scotland or England or just want something a little different, I recommend this book.
Part of a very historically accurate and well written series telling the story of James I of Scotland from his youth then being held captive from the time he was 12 until his untimely murder. the 3rd books goes on to the reign of James II who was crowned at the age of 6. I enjoyed fact checking as I went along and appreciated the author's notes regarding the events. I could have done with the descriptive love making - there is one in each of the books but it seems they are somewhat mandatory in novels these days.
If you are a Scottish History buff this is a great book/series for you.
If you are not a history buff, you'l still enjoy this book/series (3 so far, #4 comes out in January 2019).
